The five games

Bigger Sum shows two expressions and asks which one gives the bigger result. It starts with addition and adds subtraction, multiplication and division, and the time for each pair drops from 6 seconds to under 3 seconds.

Target Sums is a grid of numbers with a target at the end of every row and column. You remove numbers until each line adds up to its target. Later levels add negative numbers, so removing one can make a sum bigger.

In Maze you trace the way from a dot to a ring, on a maze that grows from 5×5 to 14×14. In Opposites you fill a board with pieces, and a dark square of a piece only fits on a light square of the board. In Pipes you turn tiles until every pipe joins one network with no open ends.

Puzzles with levels, not a test

Each game has 15 levels that get harder step by step, with bigger grids, closer numbers and longer routes. Your result is compared only with your own best. The points show how you did in the game. We do not say they measure intelligence, and we do not promise that solving puzzles makes you smarter.

Mistakes cost lives, and you have three. You lose one for a wrong answer in Bigger Sum, for taking away a number you needed in Target Sums, for turning into a dead end in Maze, or for a piece on the wrong kind of square in Opposites. In Pipes you lose one when the time runs out.

Where to start

Maze is the gentlest start, since you see the whole maze at once. Pipes shows the whole puzzle too, but each one has a time limit. Target Sums needs the most patience, and the article below goes through its strategy. Bigger Sum gives each pair a few seconds.
